EEG (Elektroencephalography):
The EEG is a diagnostic method designed for the measuring of brain activity. Variations of voltage are deduced from the brain thus allowing inferences to the neurotransmission of the brain. The measurements are taken off of the surface of the patient’s head by way of electrode pads. The obtained waves are reproduced in a diagram.
The EEG is needed for example to diagnose epilepsy (seizure disorder), encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), tumours of the brain, but also in case of headaches of all kinds, such as migraine, or unexplained vision disorders, imbalance etc.

ECD (extracranial Doppler):
Ultrasound-exploration of the blood vessels leading to the brain.

TCD (transcranial Doppler):
Ultrasound-exploration of the blood vessels inside the brain, carried out in order to determine arteriosclerotic plaques or constrictions thus making it possible to check on the blood supply of the brain and prevent bursting of the plaques by medical or surgical intervention to avoid stroke or other blood vessel based deterioration.

DUPLEX-Sonography:
Imaging ultrasound-exploration of the blood vessels and the blood flow.
IMT (INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS) means the Duplex sonographical picturing of the thickness of the arterial vascular wall, especially the inner layer (Intima), and rating the thickness of the intima media (INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS).
IMT allows a very early determination of a generalized arteriosclerosis which may lead to ischaemic attacks or even stroke or heart infarction. This method is able to supply important information for the early diagnosis of an increased risk of stroke or heart failure.

EMG (Elektromyography):
Examination and measurement of muscle activity. Thus it is possible to diagnose muscle weaknesses the origin of which may be the muscle itself or the nerve tracts which activate the muscle.
German Center for Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Psychotherapy & Counseling, Dubai UAE

NCV (Nerve conduction velocity):
Measurement of the velocity by which nerve tracts conduct an electric pulse. In the case of nerve damages of various kinds, the velocity may be slowed down accordingly or the height of the electric potential amplitude is changed.
For example: polyneuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, plexus and radix neuropathia and others

SSEP (somato-sensitive-evoked potentials):
Measurement of the sensitive nerve tracts of the limbs via the spinal cord to the brain.
For example: spinal tumours and tumours of the brain, inflammatory processes, lack of vitamin B12

AEP (acoustically evoked potentials):
Measurement of the acoustic and the equilibrium tracts within the brainstem.
For example: vertigo, defective hearing, unsteadiness of gait

VEP (visually-evoked potentials):
Measurement of the optic nerve up to the visual cortex of the brain.
For example: vision disorders, vertigo, multiple sclerosis, other disturbances

Neuro-psychological Testings

for instance for the clarification of Alzheimer’s disease
differentiation to other forms of dementia, e.g. vascular dementia
· organic brain syndrome
· disorders of brain activity
· depression
· neuroses
· anxiety disorders
· personality disorders
· sleeping disorders
By using neuropsychological test procedures, we can detect cognitive deficiencies in patients with the most differing illnesses.

Thus important hints can be gained regarding diagnostic methods, therapies and the assumable process.
Besides the general intellectual capacity, we are able to test the working (functional) memory, the learning ability, memory retrieval, executive functions and psychomotor realization.

Laboratory diagnostics
In cooperation with Laboratories, we analyze samples of blood or serum respectively, urine, faeces (stool), saliva, hair.

Dementia screening
This examination is used for the early detection of dementia processes when non-specific memory disorders occur, or unusual obliviousness or if there is a family history of dementia.
“Am I only forgetting things or do I already suffer from Alzheimer’s disease?” “Some members of my family are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. How likely is it that I will also get this disease?”
Questions such as these are often asked and can be discussed when carrying out the dementia screening. At best baseless fears will be remedied, at worst early steps can be taken (e.g. training the cognitive functions of the brain) or medical intervention to avoid or to allay any vascular dementia processes.
Even with Alzheimer’s disease there is a range of possibilities to slow down the process.

Sport Psychology

psychology dubai

Sport psychology scrutinizes mental and emotional aspects of human behaviors before, during, and after physical activities in various athletic environments.
The principles of modern sport psychology interventions integrate and teach aspects of cognitive-behavioral psychology, neurology, psychophysiology, holistic modalities, and sport-exercise science in order to sustain the athletes’ awareness of the enigmatic connection regarding mental process, physical ability, and performance.

The goal of sport psychology intervention is to help athletes to improve their performance, manage critical moments in competitions, increases resistance against stressful situations, balance anxiety levels, enhance competitive intensity, develop self-confidence and motivation, and harmonize the well-being.
Sport psychologists work with professional teams and athletes to enhance their performance through applying team, individual, or private consulting, evaluating athletes’ strengths and weaknesses, and monitoring their psycho-physiological reactions (ECG or HRV) in critical moments of performance or sport-related stress situations.

In professional sport environment, current sport psychologists apply sport psychology related techniques for the athletes’ emotional and mental control that synthesize concepts of concentration, self-talk, goal setting, relaxation, and imagery. Monitoring the training process with effective learning skills abilities and especially training endurance and intensity with optimum anxiety levels, stress management and recovery strategies have become principal tasks and well-sought prerequisites for sport psychologists.
Sport psychology training is applicable for any professional or amateur sportsmen such as soccer player, tennis player, golfers, rugby players, athletes, runners, and so on.

Biofeedback

biofeedback

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback is psycho- physiological measurement (Heart Rate-ECG, Blood Pressure, and Respiration) to diagnose autonomic regulation, stress resistance, cardiovascular health, and vitality in persons. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) means changes in the interval or distance between one beat of the heart and the next. The interbeat interval (IBI) is the time between one R-wave (or heart beat) and the next, in milliseconds. The IBI is highly variable within any given time period. HRV is analyzed in two ways, either over time (Time Domain) or in terms of the frequency of changes in Heart Rate (Frequency Domain).

HRV biofeedback training is a special technique for training individuals to change their variability as well as dominant heart rhythms in cardiovascular activity in order to increase their vitality and health. HRV biofeedback is applied to a variety of medical and psychiatric conditions such as: anger, anxiety disorders, stress disorder, depression, asthma, cardiovascular problems, or chronic fatigue. Biofeedback training suites for individuals who would like to increase the percentage of total HRV (vitality) by proper breathing exercises in order to adjust their “resonant frequency” and, thus, generate autonomic balance of the nervous system between sympathetic and parasympathetic tone.

Each individual has a “resonant frequency” at which heart rate variability is the greatest and the most vital for their organism. This “resonant frequency” is measured by HRV biofeedback instruments and it is a training of the heart rhythm by respiration called Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA). This “resonant frequency” is mostly produced by persons in a relaxed mental state, with a positive emotional stage, and especially by diaphragmatic breathing at a rate of about 5-7 breaths per minute. Thus, individuals in HRV biofeedback training are directly taught to increasing their HRV parameters and, consequently, improve their mental health, vitality, autonomic balance.
